US History & Literature

Living permanently now in the US, I am English and originally graduated in Law from Oxford University. Following college, I enjoyed a legal career that involved living and working all over the world including ten years of residence in each of Russia and Switzerland. As I turned later to teaching, I graduated with a Masters in History from London University and a Masters in Teaching History from the Institute of Education in London. At McLean I shall be in the Upper School where I am excited to be teaching a mixture of Grade 9 Literature and Grade 11 History. A fanatical reader and passionate historian, I am looking forward to sharing those interests with students at McLean. With any free time this year, I am hoping to explore Washington and the surrounding area with my family and, perhaps, to discover other parts of the US such as New Orleans and the Rockies.

K-12 College Preparatory School Supporting Bright Students’ Individual Strengths and Challenges.

McLean School is an independent, co-educational, K-12 day school serving Maryland, Washington, and Virginia. McLean has for over sixty years been helping students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. We embrace both traditional learners and ones with mild to moderate learning challenges – dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and challenges related to anxiety and executive functioning. Many of our students excel in some areas while benefiting from support in others.
