I have a BA in History from SUNY Purchase and a Masters in Teaching from Johns Hopkins University. I am also a musician. I fell in love with reading history in college. I love working with students and helping them find meaning in history. I was friends with the spouse of a teacher who was working at McLean and heard it was a small school and less traditional than most high schools in the area. I also heard that McLean served students with mild learning challenges and the school’s mission was something I could believe in and support. My passion is connecting with people and helping young learners find a voice. I enjoy working in a setting that values collaboration, academics, and diversity.
One of my favorite lessons is having my classes read Dr. Martin Luther King’s speeches and write about his commitment to nonviolent direct action. His Letter from a Birmingham Jail or his speech titled “A Time to Break the Silence” provides a great deal to work with.
