EnglishDr. Gina Dominick

My Story

I am thrilled to teach English and Senior Humanities at McLean School, where I see a commitment to students as driven thinkers, active citizens, and flourishing young adults.

My favorite classes and subject matters involve passionate discussion and debate, the creation of trans-historical and trans-cultural narratives, personal and ethical investment, and unexpected applications of critical thinking. I encourage students to work across formal and disciplinary boundaries, and they leave the class with improved verbal and written communication skills, a nurtured intellectual curiosity, and enhanced confidence in tackling life’s challenging questions.

I received my BA in English and Spanish from Washington & Jefferson College, my MA in English from Georgetown University, and my MPhil and PhD in English from New York University. My dissertation, Diseased Texts: Formosa Deformitas and Middle English Literature, develops a theory of medieval aesthetics that addresses the intersection of art, ideology, and negative affects like dread, horror, boredom, and disgust. My second research interest is in philosophy and film studies, especially horror and other dis-easing genres. Outside of college and high school teaching, I’ve tutored with The Petey Greene Program, which places tutors in correctional facilities in DC, MD, and VA, assisting students working to continue their education.
In my spare time, I enjoy music, travel, and going to see the latest A24 with my husband, Sam.
