Middle School Science and Robotics

My journey into teaching occurred while I was an undergraduate chemistry student. Chemistry majors were required to complete a full research thesis. I had the opportunity to teach laboratory courses for freshmen and sophomores. This was the moment that I knew, fostering future scientists to develop better understanding of the world through their observations, analysis, collaboration with others, and reception of new ideas was going to be more rewarding than laboratory work. My journey to McLean occurred 4 years ago when I applied for the position that I have now. Through that process, I learned more about the school’s mission and philosophy. Though my arrival at McLean was delayed, eventually another opportunity became available and I did not hesitate to apply. At McLean, students have an opportunity to construct the box they wish to learn in, rather than students learning inside a pre-conceived box built by others. I entered my journey into science education during my junior year at The College of William & Mary earning a degree Chemistry, with a focus in Bio-Inorganic Chemistry, with subsequent graduate courses at the University of Virginia, Curry School of Education. I am working on a Master’s of Education in Instructional Technology from the University of Maryland, University College. Outside of the classroom, you can see me rooting for Washington DC sports teams, playing ice hockey, or performing the violin with local symphonies. I value spending time with friends and family, traveling to new places that I have never visited, and volunteering in the community.
