My Story

Born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, I graduated from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania-the first HBCU-in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. In 1999, I earned my Master of Education in Special Education from Bowie State University. My teaching career spans from preschool to grade 6, covering regular, music, and special education classes. I particularly enjoy engaging with the unique and diverse learners in my classroom.

Every day, I witness the fascinating ways students’ minds work as they engage with different concepts through creative projects, group work, or individual assignments. I am trained in the Wilson Program, The Writing Revolution-Advancing Thinking Through Writing, Orton-Gillingham, and Step Up To Writing, alongside professional development in Restorative Practices. I love using OG (Orton-Gillingham) in my class and seeing the growth of my students. My favorite subjects to teach are math and literature. It is fulfilling to see the unique connections students make in these subjects each year. One of my favorite literature activities is character symbolism, where students identify symbols representing main characters and write about their significance.

Outside of teaching, I love playing the flute. My husband, twin daughters, and son bring me joy every day.
