My Story

I was born in New Orleans, but raised in NY and California. So, I have a bit of all of those (and other) cultures coming with me to McLean this fall. I am looking forward to the transition. I’ve been teaching ASL to young people for about 4 years in the Anne Arundel County and DC Charter School systems. It’s exciting to see how people connect through language. ASL is such a beautiful language, I consider it a privilege to be amongst those that are fortunate enough to spread the linguistic love. I have a BS in Biology from Bowie State University. I also hold an MA in ASL Linguistics from Gallaudet University. I have two amazing daughters, one a Spelman College grad, and the other a current Spelman student. They are my heartbeat!

When I am not in the classroom, and not talking to them, I am in my writing room. Theatre is my other great passion. I am honored to be one of the few people in this area (perhaps this country) that produces simultaneous and bilingual theatrical productions in ASL and English. I am happy to be at McLean and to do as much learning from this magical community as I hope to teach.
