Chris Wallace

I obtained my PhD and MS in physics at the University of Connecticut studying experimental atomic and molecular physics. My undergraduate degree was completed in physics and mathematics from Northern Kentucky University. I teach Physics and AP Physics. While I have always been interested in helping young people learn and understand science and math, I was never sure I wanted to teach at the high school level. After substituting at McLean, I was so impressed with the students, their desire to learn and their respect for their teachers, I decided to apply to teach physics in the Upper School. I have always had a passion to learn new things and ended up spending an additional 14 years in school after high school including a post-doctoral position at Rice University. Then after about 10 years working in industry for a defense contracting company I decided to stay at home and raise my three sons. Now that all three of them have completed high school and are moving on with their lives, I decided to come out of retirement and teach the incredible students at McLean.

McLean School is an independent, co-educational, K-12 day school serving Maryland, Washington, and Virginia. McLean has for over sixty years been helping students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. We embrace both traditional learners and ones with mild to moderate learning challenges – dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and challenges related to anxiety and executive functioning. Many of our students excel in some areas while benefiting from support in others.
