My Story

I have spent the majority of my career teaching music at schools in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina, and have been very fortunate to live my dream as a teaching and performing musician since 1983. The music profession has allowed me to live in and perform in nine different states and in Taipei, Taiwan. Most recently, I was the Beginning and Intermediate Band Teacher at William E. Walters Middle School in Portsmouth, VA.

I received a Bachelor of Music in French horn performance from Northern Illinois University, and my Master of Arts in music education from Marshall University. It has been a lifelong goal of mine to receive additional education in various aspects of adolescence education. I utilize the Orff Schulwerk and Music Learning Theory multisensory teaching methodologies, and strive to instill curiosity, creativity, and inclusion in my classroom.

Outside of school, I enjoy visiting my three adult children and their growing families. I love outdoor activities including biking, swimming, running, and gardening, and actively play in regional wind ensembles and orchestras.
