My Story

Born and raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky, I attended Western Kentucky University to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree, I moved to Cambridge, England, where I earned a Master of Philosophy in Psychology and Education at the University of Cambridge. Upon returning to Kentucky, I taught kindergarten and second grade for several years. I also returned to Western Kentucky University to earn a Master’s degree in Special Education.

My husband, Paul, and I have lived in Kentucky, Pasadena, California, and Seattle, Washington. When we moved to Maryland, we knew this was where we wanted to raise our three children, Nolin, Harris, and Josephine. Since moving to Maryland, I have taught pre-kindergarten and second grade, as well as special education, in the public school system. Continuing my education, I earned an Education Specialist degree in Social-Emotional Learning in 2023.

I am an avid learner who is always looking to grow. I am passionate about reading intervention, social-emotional learning, and supporting students with challenges. Some of my training and experience include Orton- Gillingham, LETRS, Responsive Classroom, Executive Functioning Skills with Sara Ward, and SPACE for Teachers.

I especially enjoyed the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading & Spelling (LETRS) training. The training provided an in-depth look into the Science of Reading and how best to support all students in reading and writing. LETRS is a resource that I refer back to often.

I am thrilled to be a part of the McLean community teaching our young learners!
