Visual Arts

Art elements, principles of design, and color theory are at the core of the curriculum and taught from basic to advanced levels across grades. Our Visual Arts program offers an innovative, stimulating, and progressively challenging curriculum for students with a casual interest as well as those with related career goals.

Beginning in kindergarten and through grade 6, students have a visual arts class twice a week; in grade 7 and 8 all students have a visual arts elective for one semester; in Upper School, we offer a rich and varied elective curriculum including Advanced Placement courses.

Student art is exhibited both internally and externally, with Lower and Middle School student art displays, an Upper School Visual Arts Evening, a Senior Graduation Art Exhibit, an exhibition at the annual Association of Independent Maryland Schools Conference, and other venues outside of school.
