Annual Giving & Alum Relations ManagerStephanie Hanson

My Story

I’m looking forward to bringing my fundraising experience to McLean School! In my previous role at Washington Waldorf School, I worked to raise the last 50% of a $7M Capital Campaign to build a gym on the school’s campus. In subsequent years, alongside dedicated colleagues and volunteers, we increased the school’s annual giving and grew an Alum Engagement Program.

In other previous roles, I worked on fundraising and strategic planning projects with the nonprofit consulting firm Capacity Partners, managed a capital campaign and annual fund for Potomac Crescent Waldorf School in Alexandria, Virginia, and served as Leadership Development Program Manager for the national arts advocacy organization Americans for the Arts. I have a strong interest in leadership and organizational change, and enjoyed facilitating an online course titled “Leading Healthy Teams” for National Arts Strategies’ Executive Program in Arts and Culture Strategy.

In a volunteer capacity, I have participated as a grants panelist for both the Arts Council of Fairfax County and Alexandria Commission for the Arts, and chaired the Board of Directors and Development Committee for Alexandria, Virginia based Arts on the Horizon, a theatre company that produces interactive and non-verbal performances for children ages 0-6 and their families.

As a believer in lifelong learning and growth, I hold a BM in Music Performance from Miami University in Ohio and an MA in Arts Management from American University. One of the most interesting things I have ever done is to study South Indian Carnatic Music in Chennai, India, the summer after graduating from college.

I now live in Northern Virginia with my husband and two young children, and I most enjoy taking walks through the woods with them at the beginning or end of the day, especially when I can go at the children’s pace and see the trail through their eyes.
