K-12 Literacy Coordinator & Instructional LeaderLisa Embrosky
With more than 25 years of diverse educational experiences in both domestic and international independent schools, I am thrilled to be part of the McLean School faculty as the K-12 Literacy Coordinator. Throughout my career, literacy instruction has been my educational passion, and I look forward to providing impactful leadership and guidance while teaching and learning among the talented educators and students at McLean.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English literature and theater arts from Gettysburg College and have a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Columbia University and a Master’s degree in special education from Niagara University. In addition, I have been trained in various structured literacy approaches and instructional methodologies, including Orton-Gillingham phonology and morphology. Over the past three decades, I have held a variety of roles in schools including classroom teacher, special education teacher, literacy interventionist, curriculum coordinator, director of teaching and learning, and literacy consultant. Regardless of role or location, I have always believed strongly in a collaborative, strength-based, and solution-focused approach to teaching, learning, and leading.
My adult life and career have been an incredible adventure. My husband, Mike, and I are so very grateful to have worked in American independent schools around the world for over two decades. Our two children, Michael (now 26), and Margret (now 25) grew up as “”third-culture kids”” while we all explored the world’s wonders together as a family. Michael and Margret were born in Vienna, began preschool in Rabat, learned to read in Dubai, attended upper elementary school in Quito, made middle school memories in Dakar, and graduated high school in Abu Dhabi. Now, they both live and work in Minneapolis in a house they share with their two dogs, Lumi and Twix. Whenever we can, my husband and I love to visit them there.
