Grade 5Kate Pemberton
I am proud to have received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Providence College in Rhode Island, obtaining educational philosophies that have shaped my career as a young teacher. As a graduate literacy candidate, I produced work in alignment with the International Dyslexia Association Standards, delivering targeted interventions from sources such as The Writing Revolution. I am excited to bring my knowledge of the Science of Reading to McLean, where multimodal literacy instruction helps students succeed. I am a lifelong learner, and my goal as an educator is to impart the same enthusiasm through engaging and evidence-based practices. I am committed to designing detailed and creative lessons that extend students’ knowledge across subjects and foster a love for school. For me, the most enjoyable aspect of teaching is the relationships I create with my students and their families. I endeavor to incorporate students’ personal interests into instruction and keep families involved through regular communication. I look forward to continuing to grow and learn from my connections with the students, families, and faculty!
Outside of school, I enjoy visiting my parents in New Hampshire and my brother at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. I love to spend my free time outside, whether it’s playing tennis, running, or reading a book in my hammock!
