  • Admission Office Administrative Assistant

    McLean School is a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeking applicants for the full-time position of Admission Office Administrative Assistant to begin June 17, 2019. McLean School has for sixty-five years been helping bright students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction.     The Administrative Assistant is an integral part of the Admission Office. S/he is responsible for responding to and coordinating Admission inquiries and visits.

    The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Admission database, data entry, and processing. Experience with Blackbaud software is preferred. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with families and applicants throughout the Admission process.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
    • Respond to telephonic and email requests for information and, as appropriate,  direct inquiries to Director of Enrollment and/or Associate Director of Enrollment & Financial Assistance;
    • Prepare and distribute Admission packets and materials to inquiring families and referring professionals.
    • Coordinate and schedule parent interviews and tours;
    • Coordinate and schedule student visits, including with divisions, student ambassadors, school nurse, and parents;
    • Ensure prospective student applications are complete and ready for consideration by the relevant Admission Committee; and  
    • In consultation with the Director of Enrollment, organize and attend Open Houses, New Family Welcome Party, and other Admission Office events, some of which occur on evenings and weekends.
    • Maintain/manage the Admission database as well as coordinate the enrollment process with our Records Manager and the Director of Enrollment.

    The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in computer science, including knowledge of Java and C++, technology, and robotics. The candidate will also run the Upper School’s Robotics team. The team has in the past competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition and currently competes in the Trinity College International Fire Fighting Robot Context. An earlier start date may be possible. This position requires a dynamic counselor with vision and patience to establish rapport with Upper School students, families, and staff. Additional responsibilities include liaising with health care professionals, conferencing with parents, supporting teachers, helping to further social-emotional programming, and teaching.
