Daniel Alvarenga
Counselor
Born in California, I moved to Maryland at the age of ten and grew up right here in Montgomery County. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Valley Forge and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Bringing a diverse range of experience to McLean, I have worked with students from elementary through high school, and completed internships in Prince George’s County and Baltimore City Public Schools. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with students from more than 30 different nationalities and I have coached soccer at the high school level as well.
The core of my work is building authentic relationships. I’m passionate about connecting with students, hearing their stories, and learning from their unique perspectives every single day.
When I’m not at school, I love staying active with my family and following sports such as baseball, football, and soccer.
