Beatrice Adewole

Counselor

#SELFCARE — I am an incredibly proud Social Worker who has served in school settings for nearly 25 years. The scope of my work and what shapes it is supporting people (be they students or adults) to establish and sustain positive self care as human beings first. Getting there is an iterative process that needs others to provide encouragement, patience, compassion, constructive feedback, guidance, kindness, communication and most of all, collaboration. This is where Counselors shine to support students and their families.

After having worked in various settings — Outpatient Counseling, Hospital and Residential (where I interacted with children and adolescents), I shifted attention and found my “lock and key fit” serving in school settings. My work in school counseling has ranged from PreK to high school (with the breadth being support for middle school students from 2012 – 2021 and high school students since 2021).

My formal education is as follows:

(BA) Bachelors degree from Brandeis University – Psychology & Sociology major – Education minor
(MSW) Masters degree in Social Work from Rutgers University
(MEd) Masters degree in Educational Administration from The College of New Jersey
Who is Beatrice outside of School Counseling?

I am a proud Haitian-American woman born in Florida, then spent 16 years in Boston (that included discovering a love of running that included competing on track teams through college) before moving to New Jersey. While in New Jersey for 23 years, I got married to my dear husband, Akintayo (aka Tayo) and we raised our three beloved children (son, Olatunji – 24 y.o. and two daughters, Folasade – 19 y.o. and Ifayola – 18 y.o.) before moving to Maryland in 2021. I’m a lover of learning who keeps myself mentally fed with reading academic articles, podcasts and certifications of interest. Another love is culture and language, which I keep up with thru travel. My all time favorite travel spot is France where I thoroughly enjoy the people, the food, the gorgeous landmarks and can enjoy conversing in French. When not managing my life as a parent of my now three young adults, you can catch me in the gym, at a movie enjoying an action or romcom, painting, shopping or with my hubby enjoying dinner at one of our favorite restaurants or cooking a new recipe at home (self-identified “foodies”).

After over 25 years of professional experience and 51 years of life experience, I posit that irrespective of age, gender, learning style, race and ethnicity and other variations of us as humans beings, life fulfillment comes down to these ten areas of attention:

BALANCE — SELF AWARENESS — CONSISTENCY — AUTHENTIC CONNECTION — GRATITUDE — FLEXIBILITY — DILIGENCE — GRACE — INTEGRITY — COURAGE

We are all truly “works in progress” who are simply trying to grow and enjoy. As humans (versus say robots), there’s no algorithm that we can program to “get it right”, so I think we’re all okay in “living this thing called life” with these in mind 🫶!

I am honored to be part of the McLean School community to contribute and be a part of its transformative goals!
