History
I first fell in love with the idea of being a teacher as an undergraduate student at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, where I worked as an English writing tutor and writing associate through Dickinson’s Norman M. Eberly Multilingual Writing Center. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in History, I went on to teach History at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire for two years. At Exeter, I trained in the use of the Harkness method, co-advised the Model United Nations club, collaborated on the development of engaging history workshops for students and adults, and continued to expand my knowledge in research and writing education. While United States history is by far my favorite subject to study and teach, I greatly enjoyed expanding my horizons at Exeter and teaching classes ranging in topics from cultural anthropology to transatlantic history and beyond.
My experience at Exeter deepened both my love of history and my desire to continue my career in education. Although New Hampshire’s rocky shores and frigid winters were truly beautiful, I greatly missed the Chesapeake region where I was born and raised. I am very excited to not only now be closer to my family in Delaware, but to become a part of the McLean community! I look forward to continuing to build on my established experience in collaborative, student-led pedagogy and finding new ways to incorporate not only written materials, but music, film, and studio and performance art into my classroom so that students can explore history in engaging and authentic ways.
When I am not in the classroom, I am most likely reading a sci-fi or fantasy novel, weight training at the gym, bingeing my latest TV obsession, or perusing the aisles of a thrift store. Of course, if the Eagles are playing, you’ll find me coaching them from my couch (Go Birds!).
