Grade 3

I have taught students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 since 2011, working in both general and special education classrooms within Montgomery County Public Schools. My experience includes co-taught inclusion classrooms as well as discrete special education programs, which taught me just how important it is to understand each child’s strengths, challenges, and individual way of learning. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Human Development from the University of Maryland, College Park, a graduate certificate in Bilingual Special Education from George Washington University, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Hood College.

In my classroom, I want students to feel known, valued, and comfortable being themselves. I enjoy creating lessons that encourage children to ask questions, share their thinking, and connect what they are learning to the world around them. One of my current areas of focus is thoughtfully weaving diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice into everyday classroom life. I want students to see themselves in what we study while also learning about experiences and perspectives beyond their own. McLean’s focus on truly knowing each student is one of the things that drew me to the school.

Outside of school, I live with my husband, Charlie; our children, Mabel and Daniel; and our cat, Harold. I enjoy reading, taking [solidcore] classes, and tackling projects around our home—especially the planning that happens before the work begins.
