Parents Association Mission

The purpose of the Parents Association (PA) is to foster the McLean School community by encouraging school spirit, family participation, and an inclusive community.

The PA supports, promotes, and coordinates volunteer efforts and leadership. Because every parent is part of the Parents Association, there are many ways for parents to participate in events throughout the year.

We invite you to volunteer at an event, participate on a committee, or step up into a leadership role!

Volunteer Opportunities

Annual Celebration & Fundraiser Committee

The biggest event of the year, the Annual Celebration and Fundraiser, celebrates our School with an evening of excitement and merriment. Volunteers help with decorations, auction items, set up, sponsorships, and more. This is a great (adults only) community event and a fun committee.

Community Education: Cecily’s Conference

McLean’s siganture event brings together national speakers, area professionals, and McLean’s trained and dedicated faculty to discuss a variety of topics important to families and professionals. This is an adult event that is offered to both McLean families and the greater Washington area. The Conference Committee will identify speakers and lead planning of the event.

K-12 Mustang Family Spring Carnival

Each year, the Parents Association puts on a spectacular Carnival that is open to all families. This beloved event includes giant inflatables, games, face painting, food, a car wash, and of course, great prizes!

Affinity Groups Committed to our Diverse Community

Fostering and celebrating our diverse community is a core value at McLean, as well as the Parents Association.

These groups provide parent community members the opportunity to socialize and find a deeper sense of community at McLean.

K-12 Book Fair

The Parents Association hosts the Book Fair at both campuses, helping students discover and purchase books.

K-12 Fall Family Walk & Day of Service and MLK Day of Service

Each Fall, McLean families participate in a neighborhood walk starting at the Lochinver Lane Campus in support of a cause important to the community. The Parents Association also organizes a vaccination clinic, uniform swap, costume exchange, and food drive. In January, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a Day of Service, preparing meals and essentials bags for those in need.

K-12 Pizza Lunch

Pizza Lunch is a fun, regularly occurring event sponsored by the Parents Association for K-12 students. Parents serve the pizza during the students’ lunch period!

Learning Commons Library

Library volunteers assist the librarian with a variety of tasks, including shelving books, on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis.

Faculty & Staff Appreciation

A fun opportunity to let McLean faculty and staff know how much we appreciate everything they do. Faculty and Staff Appreciation provides treats, meals, and surprises Creating themes, coordinating food volunteers, and set-up/break-down are all part of the committee’s activities.

Uniform Swap

The Uniform Swap is available at most school events when parents are present. The Uniform Swap Chairs collect gently used uniforms, sorts them by size, and arranges them on racks so parents can reuse them at no cost.

K-4 Halloween Celebration

After the K-4 Halloween Parade, the students are treated to fun, Halloween-themed games, and activities in the classrooms created and run by parent volunteers, followed by parent-led storytime in the homerooms.

K-4 Field Day

This exciting morning in the sun allows parents to lead a circuit of races and cooperative events culminating in a parents versus faculty and staff tug-of-war!

K-4 Recess Duty

Every Friday, parents help support McLean faculty and staff at recess, engaging students in leading games and playground activities.

Discover the McLean Experience

It’s critically important for a child to be in a school that respects them for who they are, and supports their academic strengths and challenges. This has always been true for McLean.
