Knowing that enrichment and growth happen beyond the classroom, we encourage students to participate in clubs and activities and make time during the day for them to explore their passions and interests.
During the school day, Lower School students participate in Friday clubs (once or twice a month during 8th period) which change each year depending on the interests of the students. They are across grade levels and an opportunity for students of different ages to get to know each other while finding commonalities, collaborating during activities, and exploring interests.
Middle School students participate in clubs during their lunch period and are created based on student interests. Depending on the club there are opportunities for cross-grade participation. Clubs have included: Anime Club, Attitude Changes Everything (Diversity Club), Boys in the Middle, Bus Patrols, Climate Committee (Student Government), Crafts Club, Games Club, Girls in the Middle, Girls of Science, Mindfulness Club, Sports Talk, Spirit Club, and Student Ambassadors.
Upper School activities and clubs include Student Government Association, Discipline Committee, Equity Board, Honor Committee, Service League, Activity Committee, McLean Ambassadors, Journalism Club, Improv, Independent Art, and Prom Committee play a significant role in student development as learning and fun come together to enrich the lessons learned from McLean’s classrooms. If students have a particular interest, they may start a club with the approval of the Head of Upper School.
