The McLean Parents Association invites you to get involved! We depend on the generosity of our parents to share their time, energy, enthusiasm, talent, and skills in order to continue our programs and events. If you are interested, please either fill out the Volunteer Sign Up Form or email Sarah Haskell, Parents Association President.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Auction Committee

    Celebrate our school in an evening of excitement and merriment. Volunteers are needed to help with solicitation, organization, decorations, auction items, set up and more. This is a great (adults only) community event and a fun committee in which to work. There are many opportunities to get involved.
  • Book Fair

    In the Fall, during K-8 Conferences, the PA hosts a Scholastic Book Fair. You will help restock, assist students shop, tally totals, and man the register.
  • Cecily's Advocacy Conference

    An all-day event almost entirely parent run, brings national speakers, area professionals and McLean's expert faculty together on a variety of topics that are important to families and professionals. This is an adult event that is offered to both McLean families and the greater Washington area. The workshop committee will identify speakers and assist with planning the event.
  • Hospitality

    Help this committee with welcoming members of our community at a variety of events. This committee coordinates food, gifts, and correspondence as necessary. Some of the events include: Parents Association Meetings, Cecily’s Advocacy Conference, and Faculty/Staff Appreciation.
  • Fall Festival

    The Fall Festival is a fun carnival-like event and a great community builder. The Upper School students hold a car wash. This committee will coordinate volunteers and day-of events.
  • Host Grade Parent Social

    Host and coordinate a fun adult evening for all the grade parents in your child’s grade.
  • Learning Commons Library

    Library volunteers assist the librarian with a variety of tasks, including shelving books, on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis.
  • Limited Availability

    Do not know what to commit to or do not have the time? Don’t care what you do, but only when you do it? This is the group for you! At many points throughout the year the PA gets busy, or we need to do something quickly, and need “all hands on deck.”
  • Morning Greeters & Afternoon Farewellers

    Parent greet students at the McLean entrance at the start and end of the school day. The extra bonus is that you can drop-off and pick up your child directly at school on the days that you volunteer.

  • Parents Council of Washington

    Be a representative for the McLean School parents to attend Parents Council of Washington (PCW) events. PCW is a consortium of approximately 50 independent schools in the Washington Metro Area, serving parents, school leaders and students. PCW provides greater communication; information and liaison opportunities to help parents and independent schools educate children. A Representative for each division is needed.
  • K-12 Pizza Lunch

    Pizza Lunch is a fun monthly event sponsored by the Parents Association for K-12 students. Come serve the pizza over the students’ lunch period! Sign up to be a regular volunteer (time commitment is one Monday per month from 11:00 am—12:30 pm). Can’t do it every month? Sign up to volunteer when you are able or just drop in.
  • Faculty & Staff Appreciation

    A fun opportunity to let McLean faculty and staff know how much we appreciate everything they do. Teacher Appreciation provides treats, meals and surprises monthly. Creating themes, coordinating food volunteers, and set-up/break-down are all part of the committee’s activities.
    
  • McLean Gear Swap

    The Uniform Swap is available at most school events when parents are present, volunteers are needed to assist with setup, assisting parents with uniform selection, and packing up.

McLean School is an independent, co-educational, K-12 day school serving Maryland, Washington, and Virginia. McLean has for over sixty years been helping students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. We embrace both traditional learners and ones with mild to moderate learning challenges – dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, and challenges related to anxiety and executive functioning. Many of our students excel in some areas while benefiting from support in others.
