Grades 5/6 Science
Every job I have ever had involved children or education: babysitting, summer camp, counselor, swim instructor, theater camp director, gymnastics birthday party supervisor, and much more. My hobbies have always included singing and acting. It was my dream to be on Broadway one day, but I remember being a teenager, working as a camp counselor, and reality hit. As much as I love performing, my gift of teaching is much stronger. Luckily, I continue to enjoy music and musical theater opportunities while working in education!
I earned a BA in education at The University of West Georgia and a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Georgia Southern University. I love my home state of Georgia, but better teaching opportunities in the DC brought me here. I have had the pleasure of teaching several age groups in elementary and middle school science and technology.
After 8 years, I took a small break from teaching and became the professional development specialist at an educational non-profit in DC where I got to use my love of science education and professional development to train in-service and pre-service teachers on how to effectively teach environmental science concepts. I'm glad I got to experience something outside of teaching students, but my passion for teaching called me again and I'm thrilled to be back at it! I’m especially looking forward to teaching at McLean where mindfulness, diversity, community, and a quality education is so strong.
Outside of school, I volunteer with animal rescue organizations, participate in local theater, sing with The Washington Chorus, and spend time with family. Occasionally, I do adventurous things like skydiving!
