Visual Arts

The Visual Arts program offers an innovative, stimulating, and progressively challenging curriculum that guides and prepares students in their individual visual arts interests and career goals. The art elements, principles of design, and color theory are at the core of the Visual Arts curriculum and are presented from basic to advanced levels from kindergarten through grade 12. Each student’s creative expression is nurtured while offering experience with a variety of 2- and 3- dimensional art materials and techniques. Beginning in kindergarten and through grade 6, students have a visual arts class twice a week. In grades 7 and 8 all students have a visual arts elective for one semester. The Upper School Visual Arts program offers a rich and varied elective curriculum including foundational through Advanced Placement courses. Student art is exhibited both internally and externally. This includes Lower and Middle School student art displays, an Upper School Visual Arts Evening, a Senior Graduation Art Exhibit, the annual AIMS Conference, and other venues outside the school that are based on opportunities that arise throughout the school year.
