Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department prides itself on enabling students to find their ability to express themselves through music and drama. Students who participate in these programs find a heightened sense of self-confidence and self-worth. The kindergarten through grade 12 music curriculum which encompasses skills in music literacy, music theory and appreciation is heavily “performance-driven” with chorus and string ensembles beginning in third grade. Middle School music classes provide expanded opportunities to perform in other vocal and instrumental venues such as strings, guitar, or band. Our award-winning Jazz Band, Chorus and Strings Ensemble provide Upper School students with opportunities to refine, polish, and deliver outstanding performances both on and off campus.
Middle and Upper School students have the added opportunity to participate in extra-curricular drama activities throughout the school year. Middle and Upper School students join forces and tackle a huge project of preparing a drama performance in the fall, and a musical performance during the spring semester. Students may also participate in behind-the-scene projects that include stage-crew and costuming.
