There is nothing more exciting than seeing a reserved student come alive through the arts—in a play’s starring role, with a jazz trumpet solo or through the creation of a stunning portrait. Visual and Performing Arts are essential elements of a McLean education, revealing talents that students never imagined, building confidence and a positive self-image.
Through painting, sculpture, drama, and music, students tap into the arts as powerful vehicles for expression. The visual arts are on display throughout McLean and in our online galleries. Lower and Middle School students take string classes and participate in String Ensembles and Chorus; Middle Schoolers also have options of band and guitar; Upper School students perform in Jazz Band and Rock, Pop & Blues Band. McLean musicians perform at concerts, assemblies, music competitions, sporting events, open houses, and the annual spring musical, as well as at local venues and festivals.
Our spring musicals attract the entire McLean community and showcase students in such gems as, Oklahoma, The Pirates of Penzance, Grease, Guys & Dolls, Big River, Annie, Beauty and the Beast and South Pacific. Every fall, students elicit laughter by presenting a comedy. Our students’ appreciation for the arts will enhance the rest of their lives.
