Athletic Announcements

Thank you for your interest in McLean School’s Fall Athletics 2019 season. Below you will find information about the Fall sports to help you prepare. It is important for your child to have up to date physical information with the Athletic Trainer as well as the school nurse. These documents can be uploaded into the Magnus Health Board on the Mustang Portal. If the information is expired, it is important to have it completed as soon as possible to participate. We also must have up to date emergency contact information. Athletes will not be able to participate until all forms have been completed and turned into Magnus Health/Athletic Trainer.
McLean’s Athletic Program goal is to provide every athlete with an opportunity to have a positive experience on a sports team. Sports allow positive social interactions, improving developmental skills, creating healthy lifestyle choices, team building/spirit, and most importantly having fun. We do not “cut” athletes from our teams. In cases where numbers for sports are higher, we may need to create additional teams for the sport. Please review the Athletic Expectations email (being sent August 19) for additional information. We will do our best to ensure every athlete is placed on a team. Playing time may vary depending on sport level and team. Sports teams may be competitive, but first year athletes are encouraged to participate and have fun.
Transportation
Transportation to away games will be provided by the school and will also return to campus when the game is over. Parents are permitted to pick their children up at away games but need to communicate the information to the coach before the team leaves. We are not permitted to leave any students at the away location if the parents are not present. We also are unable to delay the bus for a long period of time in order to arrive back on campus.
Game Schedule (scroll down past the letter for pre-season and season practice times)
Parents are strongly encouraged to check the McLean twitter account for game information as well as the School website under Athletics (McLean Athletics). Parents will be able to find the specific team under team pages and review the team schedule. Cancellations can also be found on the twitter account when they occur.
Attire/Equipment
All athletes should wear proper sport specific attire. Certain sports may require additional items. Coaches will distribute uniforms to all players prior to their first game. All players are responsible for their uniform throughout the season and will return it once the season has ended. Please check with the Athletic Director or Coach for any specific equipment. Players will not be allowed to participate if they do not have the required safety equipment (or uniform on game day).  Water bottles are encouraged but athletes may use McLean provided water bottles.
Practices/Games
Upper School practices (except Upper School Girls Tennis Club) will start on Monday, August 26 and Middle School practices will begin on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 3. Practice days and times for each sport are listed below.
We will always attempt to have practices or games. There may be practices that are canceled due to scheduling conflicts and facility space constraints. Canceling is always our last resort as the department will attempt to find alternative spaces. We will do our best to make the cancellation by 1:30 pm.
Attending practices during the season is mandatory at all sports levels. It is important for parents and athletes to communicate any reasons practice may be missed to the coach. The coaches will provide strong leadership and commitment to the team and need the same from the athletes. The coaches have the same standards during practice just as the teachers do in the classroom. Coaches will reach out to parents with additional information about the upcoming season and be in contact throughout the season.
