Community Service
Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, Upper School students will be required to complete community service hours as part of their graduation requirements. Through the community service projects, students will have the opportunity to become connected with the community outside school and to explore interests. It is the goal of the community service requirement to foster a sense of social responsibility.
Program Overview:
- Students may begin to earn hours toward the community service graduation requirement the summer after completing grade 8.
- The Class of 2015 will complete 40 hours of community service for graduation.
- The Class of 2014 will complete 30 hours.
- The Class of 2013 will complete 20 hours.
- Current Upper School students who have completed community service hours may submit those hours on official letterhead to be included in the student’s record.
- Students are responsible for getting the required Community Service Form by clicking on FORM and submitting it to the community service coordinator for approval before the hours are accrued.
- Students are responsible for having the form completed by the host organization to verify hours accrued with that organization.
- Students should submit the form to the community service coordinator to be kept in the student’s file.
- Students should keep a record of their hours accrued.
Service Opportunities:
There are two ways students can earn community service hours:
- Students can earn hours through participation with school sponsored community service (with the exception of food and money drives).
- Students can choose an outside organization; however, that organization must be approved by the community service coordinator.
