McLean School of Maryland

Bus Guidelines

Follow the Driver’s instructions

School buses are just like classrooms; the adult is in charge. Follow the directions of the driver, the same way you listen to the teacher. Cooperation with the bus driver is mandatory to enable the driver to provide a safe ride for all students.

Remain Seated, Facing Forward

You must stay seated in your assigned seats at all times until the driver tells you it is safe to exit. Lower School Students are asked to sit in the font of the bus. You must keep all parts of your body inside the bus. You may not put your feet on the seat.

Keep Hands, Feet and Objects to Yourself

You may not push, wrestle or annoy other students on the bus or at the bus stop. You may not throw anything, at any time on or out of the bus.

Be Polite and Talk Quietly

You may talk quietly only to the riders in the same seat with you. You may not use inappropriate language or gestures. Do not yell out the windows or distract passing cars or buses.

Keep the Bus Clean

No eating, drinking, chewing gum, or littering. Remove all property such as backpacks, coats, and papers when departing the bus. McLean School is not responsible for lost articles.

Be a Safe Rider

Keep the bus aisle clear; this includes student feet, book bags, sport items, and anything that may hinder the quick evacuation of the bus. Large objects* that cannot be held on a student lap such as some musical instruments, class projects, large sports gear, etc., should not be transported on the bus.

Only ride your assigned bus unless your parents have notified the school of a change.

Parents should arrive at the site at least five minutes before the scheduled pick-up and drop-off times to ensure quick and supervised boarding and disembarking. The scheduled times for pickup and drop-off of students at designated locations is an estimate which we try very hard to maintain, but operating conditions may vary these times.

Report any safety issues or incidents to the bus driver and the Front Desk (301.299.8277).

Please remember; riding the school bus is a privilege, don’t lose it!

Drop off and pick-up procedures:

-Each site has a unique traffic pattern that must be followed in order to maintain a safe environment. Please consider this when you drop off or pick up your children. Do not cut in front of the bus with your car. Parents of younger children may walk their children to the bus door. For everyone’s safety, please drive slowly and be patient at these times.

-If Upper School Students intend to park during School Hours at Cabin John Mall please park in the spaces designated for McLean School.

It is very important that no McLean family cars come into the neighborhood between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. or 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. without permission. Fines will be assessed for violators of this policy: $100 for the first offense, $250 for the second and $500 for the third. Permission may be granted by a Division Head or members of the Administration for meetings, conferences, etc. It should be mentioned that this limited access is required by the Board of Education of Montgomery County and is an obligation of our lease. Parents should transport any large objects that cannot be held on a student lap to school between 9:00am and 2:30pm or after 3:30pm. Thank you for your cooperation.
