KnowlEdge Tutor Mentoring Program

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the mentoring program we have designed for the Stixrud tutors, the KnowlEdge tutors, and the students of the Strategies That Work class.

Specifically this program is “an evening” with Bill Stixrud. As you can see from the schedule of dates, he selected five topics which he thinks are particularly relevant and interesting for tutors. He will make a presentation and there will be ample time for questions and answers. The purpose of this program is twofold:

First, we want to provide an opportunity for dissemination of information and discussion with other professionals.

Second, we want to offer you an opportunity in an informal setting to interact with your peers about the nuts ‘n bolts of tutoring.

Whether you have been tutoring for many years or you are a novice, it is always helpful to collaborate with like-minded folks. Tutoring in particular is a solitary activity. You are alone with a student and not part of an organized team or a staff. For example, the psychologists in our practice have monthly “clinical” meetings for this exact purpose and teachers in schools have ongoing staff meetings for professional development. In addition, The Stixrud Group psychologists as well as classroom teachers have many opportunities for informal peer mentoring during the course of their work day. Tutors, however, are not part of a particular organization and have to actively seek these kinds of relationships.

Finally, if you seek private one-on-one mentoring we hope to be able to match you with an experienced, seasoned tutor. After we make the introduction, all further arrangements will be private between the participants.

Our commitment to you is to provide these kinds of ongoing professional development and mentoring opportunities.
