The objective of Middle School drama is to introduce students to the fun and fulfilling world of telling stories on stage. Using a thematic approach that varies quarterly, students focus on interpretation, design, and performance as gain an in-depth understanding of theatrical elements, terminology, concepts, and conventions. Students develop their voices, bodies, and minds to play effective characters on stage using both improvisation and scripted materials (selections from classical and contemporary comedies and dramas). The course also explore the historical and cultural contexts that led to the creation of various theatrical trends. Additionally, particular emphasis is placed on production organization and aspects of technical theatre, including scenic, costume, lighting, and makeup design. This course meets four times per week for thirty-five minutes.
